Museum lighting plays a key role in highlighting cultural heritage. Choosing the right lighting solution not only enhances the visitor experience but also protects the exhibits. Recently, we had the honour of contributing to the modernization of the lighting in the showcases of the National Museum of History of Romania. This project represented a challenge, but also an opportunity to implement customized and innovative solutions. Our museum lighting solutions are designed to provide natural color rendering while protecting the valuable pieces in the collections.

The Challenge: Uncompromising Lighting for Historical Exhibits

Museums frequently face lighting challenges. It is essential to achieve accurate colour rendering and highlight the details of each object. At the same time, the light must be delicate enough not to damage sensitive materials. In the case of the display cases at the National History Museum, their complex structure and variable dimensions required flexible and high-performance solutions.

The solution: Customized lighting fixtures with CRI>95

We developed custom lighting fixtures for this project, specifically designed for the museum’s display cases. We chose LED light sources with a colour rendering index (CRI) higher than 95. This parameter guarantees a faithful and vibrant rendering of the colours of the exhibits, close to natural light.

Another important aspect was the uniformity of the light. Our solutions eliminate shadows and unwanted reflections, providing clear and pleasant visibility. We also included light intensity adjustment systems, to adapt the lighting according to the nature of the exhibits or the exhibition scenario.

The housings were also adapted to replace the old lighting fixtures in the existing display cases, without affecting their original structure. The materials used ensure durability, visual discretion and optimal protection for the integrated technology.

The results: An immersive atmosphere and well-protected exhibits

Implementing the new lighting system has had an immediate and visible impact. Visitors now enjoy an improved visual experience, with details and colours better highlighted. The exhibits, some of which are quite old, are protected from damage, thanks to the low heat emissions of the LED sources.

The new system is energy efficient, helping to reduce maintenance costs. The flexibility offered by the light settings allows for the customization of the atmosphere for different exhibitions.

Well-designed museum lighting can completely transform the way visitors perceive a cultural space. The high CRI index and modern technologies provide natural colour rendering, amplifying the beauty of the exhibits. At the same time, customized solutions protect sensitive objects and are more energy-sustainable.
