The lighting of the metal structure of the Ciurel bridge in Bucharest involved a lot of involvement. The standard products did not fit the requirements. But with the help of customizing our lighting fixtures, we were able to illuminate the entire length of the structure evenly without causing any inconvenience to the traffic area. Thus, in the images below, you can see the illuminated Ciurel Bridge at night.
The Ciurel Passage has a total length of 1km and connects Splaiul Independensei with the Splaiul Independensei—Ciurel—Highway A1 crossing in Bucharest, Romania. The role of this passage was to improve traffic in the area. Its construction began in 2010, stopped in 2014, then resumed and finished in 2020. Thus, it becomes one of the most controversial passages in the country. The passage consists of a cable-stayed bridge and a classical section on pillars and has exit ramps on Soseau Virtuții and Splaiul Independentei.
For this project, lighting fixtures were customized to the needs of the site. A cut-off was added to the standard model so that all light was directed to the metal structures that wanted to be illuminated. This stopper also brings other benefits, such as eliminating the direct glare from lighting fixtures. Drivers are not able to notice the light source and are not disturbed while driving in any way due to the illumination of the bridge structure. Thus, the lighting of Ciurel bridge does not produce disturbing light pollution.
Also, the grip system required customizations. The bodies were to be caught right on the bridge girders.
The Ciurel passage is not the only project of this kind carried out by our team. The first bridge on which outdoor linear projectors from the Galaxy series were installed is the Basarab passage, also in Bucharest. This project was realized more than ten years ago.
