This project for Architectural lighting Milenium Church was realized in 2013.
The Millenium Church is the largest Roman Catholic church in Timișoara, Romania. This dates back to 1901. The place of worship was dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
The church is built in neo-Roman style. Its facade is made of raw brick. The walls of the church are 1-3.64 m thick. The nave, sanctuary and dome are made of Portland cement. Three life-size statues are placed above the gate: the apostles Peter and Paul, and Christ the Redeemer with the cross in the middle.
The church has two towers with a height of 65 meters. The total area of the building is 1700 square meters.
The windows are embellished with stained-glass windows made in Hungarian and German workshops, among which stand out those in the apse, four in number, of large dimensions.
The architectural lighting of the Milenium church plays a significant role in how we perceive the architecture of the building at night. Light highlights form, textures, and details guiding us to understand architecture better.
The lighting design was done by the Luxten company. Recessed lighting fixtures from the Atlas series were used for this project. Their role was to illuminate the walls.
To highlight statues or various specific architectural elements, linear lighting fixtures from the Galaxy series were installed, fitted with different light distributions and powers according to needs. Andromeda series projectors were also used.
Facade lighting helps highlight key elements and better understand the architectural concept. All the lighting effects used, including the play of lights and shadows, add an artistic touch and a sense of volume.
The right choice of lighting fixtures satisfies both the technical and aesthetic needs of this building. A well-lit church attracts tourists and visitors, which helps the local economy. And as far as the locals are concerned, an illuminated facade not only creates a much more pleasant ambience but a well-lit place also provides a sense of security. All these facts create a real visual experience.
